US says terrorist attacks still a risk in the Philippines

MANILA - The United States has reiterated its warning that travelers face the risk of terrorist activity in the Philippines, particularly in the restive southern islands of Mindanao and Sulu, where al-Qaida-linked Islamist militants are active.
An updated travel advisory issued by the State Department on Tuesday in Washington reflected continued threats due to terrorist and insurgent activities.
"Targeted sites may be public gathering places including, but not limited to, airports, shopping malls, conference centers, and other public venues," the US State department said.
