US urges that Egypt's elections go forward

WASHINGTON - The United States urged Egypt to go ahead with elections despite an upsurge in violence on Monday and urged restraint on all sides.
The death toll had risen to 33 as police in Cairo fought protesters demanding an end to army rule in the worst violence since the uprising that ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
White House spokesman Jay Carney called for restraint on all sides and added, "The United States continues to believe that these tragic events should not stand in the way of elections."
