US: Window closing for Syria to avoid further sanctions

WASHINGTON - The White House warned the Syrian government on Tuesday that the "window is narrowing" for Damascus to halt its violent crackdown on democracy protests and avoid further US sanctions.
"We are looking at taking additional measures," White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters when asked whether the Obama administration was preparing additional sanctions on Syrian President Bashar Assad's government. But he declined to give a timeframe or details on steps under consideration.
