Yadlin: Syria developments could be positive for Israel

The current events in Syria could have a positive impact on Israel, former IDF Military Intelligence chief Amos Yadlin said Thursday.
Speaking at a security conference, Yadlin said that the protests against the Assad regime "could yield a positive strategic outcome for Israel." He added that the Israeli defense establishment had "for years proposed to reach a peace agreement with Damascus, even at the expense of painful territorial concessions. Now the potential exist for regional development without Israeli intervention."
Also Thursday, Yadlin told Army Radio that an Iranian nuclear weapon would be an "existential threat" to Israel. "An nuclear weapon in the hands of Iran- a country which calls for Israel to be wiped off the map and which routinely denies the Holocaust- is a potential existential threat to Israel," he said.
