Zimbabwe: 70 children killed from measles outbreak

Seventy children in Zimbabwe have been killed over the past two weeks as a result of a measles outbreak, the country's state media said on Thursday, AFP reported.
According to the report, the majority of the victims came from families from apostolic sects that do not usually take measles vaccinations.
"We have started receiving reports of deaths due to a suspected measles outbreak (last) Tuesday and the numbers are continuing to grow," Zimbabwe's health ministry disease control director Portia Manangazira told the state-run daily, The Herald.
"The persistent refusal (of immunizations) by some segments of society means these closed communities have large numbers of unvaccinated children," the director said.
