Gas station operators that refuse to follow new rules requiring self-service to be available to all customers "will be dealt with harshly," National Infrastructures Authority head Eli Ronnen said Monday. On Sunday, a new law took effect requiring all petrol stations to offer self-service pumps and prices, at 11 agorot per liter less than the full-service price. The full-service price can only be charged if self-service is also available at at least one pump. The law also provides for individuals recognized as physically handicapped to receive full-service treatment at the self-serve price. The ministry has launched a nationwide inspection to ensure that station owners adhere to the new law, with maximum penalties of three years imprisonment or NIS 202,000 in fines for transgressors.
