A pro-Palestinian protest in Sweden featured hanging skeletons wearing concentration camp uniforms under the banner "a genocide is a genocide," according to social media footage seen on Saturday.

In the picture, the skeletons are hanged execution-style, with blue-and-white striped uniforms with Stars of David and prisoner numbers on them.

A person wearing a keffiyeh and holding a baby doll can also be seen in the lower frame of the picture.

The installation was erected in Umeå, in northern Sweden.

KAN News reported that Umea for Palestine originally distributed pictures of a protest that included images of the installation. The organization later deleted the post, but screenshots of the event have gone viral on Swedish social media.

Umea for Palestine distances itself from antisemitic installation

In a Saturday post, Umea for Palestine distanced itself from the creator of the installation.

"Last Friday, an art installation was organized in Umeå by an independent artist, under the name 'A Genocide is A Genocide is A Genocide,'" the post read.

"We want to be clear that Umeå for Palestine was neither the organizer nor played a contributing role in the planning or execution of the installation. However, we did post an image of the installation on our social media."

Umea for Palestine went on to assert that the purpose of the installation was to "draw parallels between two horrific genocides and highlight the message that it is unacceptable, no matter who is affected." The group also claimed that  this is something that Holocaust researchers around the world also discuss, including in Israel."

The organization added that after it had received criticism over the antisemitic installation, its members wanted to be "very clear that this is absolutely not something we support, believe in, or want to be associated with."
