Prime Minister Naftali Bennett decided that the number of COVID cases or seriously ill patients will not be the determining factor in Israel's policy calculations regarding enforced restrictions, according to N12.
Instead, the determining factor will be the hospitals' available capacity, or how close they are to collapsing. Only when the hospitals are near collapse, Bennett will announce a short, severe lockdown, the report said.
On Friday morning, the Health Ministry announced that 2,140 people had tested positive for COVID on Thursday, and that the percentage of positive cases out of all tests rose to 2.37%. Some 167 patients were reported as being in serious condition, 26 of whom are intubated.
Also on Friday, Israel inaugurated its booster shot campaign, with around 3,000 older people who had received their second shot five months ago or more turning out.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has charged the health funds with vaccinating all 1.5 million individuals who qualify for the vaccine within 10 days.
