A day after a shooting left two brothers wounded in Netanya, police managed to get their hands on a pair of suspects they say are linked to the attack, which they fear is part of a wider battle over the coastal city’s drug trade.
The suspects, aged 27 and 28, are both residents of Netanya. They were taken to the city’s district court on Thursday, where their remands were extended until Monday.

The shooting took place on the corner of Zalman Shnior and Shai Agnon streets on Wednesday night, when one of the two suspects began firing at the victims from a distance of ten meters. Police said Thursday they believe the suspect laid in wait for the brothers, hiding in high grass in the yard of a nearby building until the two arrived.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and evacuated the men to Netanya’s Laniado Hospital, with one brother lightly wounded and the other in serious condition.
As the night wore on, large numbers of police officers collected evidence and combed the area for the shooter.
According to police, the two suspects, as well as both of the brothers and their father, are have a record with police for being involved in the local drug trade. The corner where the shooting took place is one of the main drug-dealing spots in the city and police said that they believe that the shooting was part of an ongoing turf war over the city’s drug trade.
The shooting took place in the same spot where 15 years earlier their father was shot and seriously wounded in a shooting police say was also linked to the drug trade. In that shooting, the father’s life was saved by a police detective who lived nearby, heard the gunshots and rushed to give the man CPR and first aid until paramedics could arrive.
