Missile attack drill to be held in capital

The National Emergency Authority will be conducting a large-scale drill in Jerusalem on Tuesday to assess the city’s preparedness for emergencies.
The various municipal departments will drill simulated missile attacks, as well as the absorption of people from all over Israel seeking assistance and shelter in the capital.
Participating in the largescale drill, which begins at 8 a.m. and wraps up at 4 p.m., will be the Municipal Emergency Headquarters, community administrations, schools, the Jerusalem Police, Magen David Adom, the Home Front Command, and government offices in the Jerusalem district.
During the drill, a municipal situation room will be opened, tasked with handling any scenario and conducting the activities required of the municipal system.
At 10 a.m. an alarm will sound throughout the city, and the municipality staff and students will practice evacuating to shelters and protected spaces. The Fire and Rescue Service will practice responding to terrorist acts and fires, and conduct rescues and medical evacuations.
The Ziv School will host a water distribution center, and its pupils will help distribute water bottles to elderly people.
Gihon, the municipal water company, will transport water tanks to distribution centers throughout the city.
Some 30 municipal vehicles will simulate receiving people fleeing to the city from out of town, accompanied and assisted by the Jerusalem Police. This population will be absorbed by the community administrations of Pisgat Zeev and Neveh Ya’acov. Smoke screens and fire extinguishing equipment will be used during the drill, and sirens will be activated. There will be heavy presence of rescue and emergency vehicles.
