Moments before the crash, the pilot reportedly said on his radio that he is approaching the airport in Rosh Pina. The flight originated in Herzliya.
The Airports Authority said there had been an engine malfunction, forcing the pilot to attempt a landing at the Mahanayim airport. The plane crashed three kilometers prior to reaching its destination.
In August, two were killed when an ultra-light plane crashed near Rehovot. The crash was caused by a technical fault.
