Shapiro built his initial wealth in the middle of the 20th century by transforming his father’s small coat factory into Kay Windsor.
Jonas Jaimovick, who turned himself in to Rio Police on Monday, had made headlines for disappearing with an estimated $32 million.
Madoff pleaded guilty to 11 felony charges related to money laundering, perjury and falsifying financial documents.
'When I sentenced Mr. Madoff in 2009, it was fully my intent that he live out the rest of his life in prison. Nothing has happened in the 11 years since to change my thinking.'
"Madoff's crimes were extraordinarily evil," prosecutors said. "His sentence was appropriately long. It should not be reduced."
Many prominent Jewish nonprofits suffered major losses in the fraud.
He had previously asked Trump to commute his sentence, but the president has yet to act.
Madoff is serving a 150-year sentence in federal prison in Butner, North Carolina, for his $19 billion Ponzi scheme.
The trustee has estimated that the customers lost $17.5 billion in Madoff's fraud, which was uncovered in December 2008.
Another $464 million has been paid out to victims of Bernie Madoff’s $19 billion Ponzi scheme, bringing the total distributions in the case to more than $12 billion.
