When Laurel Hubbard was announced as the first out transgender woman athlete to compete in an individual sport at an Olympic Games, controversy wasn’t far behind.

The move, which critics say wrongly conflates pedophilia with LGBT issues, triggered a mass rally outside parliament on Monday, while several rights groups have called on Fidesz to withdraw the bill.

Transgender parents will be registered simply as 'parent,' without any specification of gender, on their child's birth certificate.

Outside the stadium in the northern city of Haifa, one fan carried a banner that hailed Berman as a "super woman, incredible, brave."

During her time at Nitzan, she experienced repeated harassment from other prisoners on the basis of her gender identity, things she would not have received in a women's prison.

“None of us have suffered the difficult situation this defendant has endured as a result of his gender identity confusion... Enough’s enough.”

Sixteen other states are considering similar bills. Civil rights organizations have said they are likely to sue to stop any such bills that are enacted.

Holding back tears, Khan recalled how she was disowned by her family at 13 and forced into begging.

“I went to Adamah because everyone was telling me this is like a great queer place to learn, like you will meet many trans and queer Jews there,” said Kohanski.
