Saudi Arabia, the hardest-hit of all three countries, likely joined the pact so it would have more leverage and options as trust in Washington is waning in the region, Guzansky said.

The new defense pact between Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan will establish NATO-style security mechanisms, Ankara says.

Once Saudi Arabia has the capacity to enrich uranium, Turkey and Egypt might be the next in line to seek to accomplish the same.

The agreement says that any armed attack on any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack against them all.
