Tzachi Braverman has asked Israel's High Court to overturn a district court ruling reinstating restrictive conditions, including a travel ban, preventing him from assuming his London ambassador post.

Judge Michael Karshen accepted the police appeal against a lower court decision that had largely lifted the conditions imposed on Braverman, who is under investigation.

The case is part of the so-called “midnight meeting” affair, tied to the broader probe into the leak of classified documents to the German newspaper Bild.

In a sharply reasoned decision, Judge Menahem Mizrahi rejected the police request to extend Braverman’s release conditions through February 24, canceling the prohibition on leaving the country.

The Monday decision revealed that Tzachi Braverman made use of sensitive information obtained through his official role in connection with the investigation into leaked classified materials.

Braverman is suspected of obstructing an investigation, improperly conveying official information, and fraud and breach of trust.

In a short decision issued on Tuesday, Judge Ami Kobo ordered that the enforcement of the magistrate’s ruling be stayed until at least February 1.

The appeal was heard a day after the district court reversed an earlier decision by Magistrate’s Court President Judge Menachem Mizrahi and reinstated restrictive conditions on Tzachi Braverman.

Lod District Court Judge Yaakov Spasser ruled that there is reasonable suspicion justifying the imposition of restrictions on Tzachi Braverman.

The decision, authored by Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court Judge Mehahem Mizrahi, will take effect on Sunday to allow the Israel Police to appeal to the district court.
