ADL slams 'anti-Semitic' Chavez campaign against Capriles

The Anti-Defamation League on Wednesday slammed incumbent Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's campaign against opposition candidate Henrique Capriles Radonski, accusing Chavez of promoting "classical anti-Semitic myths and canards" in efforts to squash Radonski in upcoming elections.
In recent months, Venezuelan state-run media has claimed Carpiles is "disloyal," saying that he is a part of a Zionist conspiracy controlling media and global markets, according tot he ADL.
State radio and newspapers have focused on Capriles's Jewish roots - he is descendant of a family of Sephardic and Polish-Russian Jews - though the opposition candidate is devout Catholic.
“This is a new and bizarre twist on the anti-Semitism long championed by the government of Hugo Chavez and routinely disseminated through the government-controlled media of Venezuela,” ADL National Direct Abraham H. Foxman said.
