CAIRO - Arab League chief Nabil Elaraby flew to Syria on Saturday to convey concerns over the bloody crackdown on popular unrest that has killed hundreds, a League official and an airport source said.

Elaraby had originally been expected to travel to Damascus on Wednesday but Arab diplomats said the visit was delayed at Syria's request.

One source said the trip would last a few hours.
