Senior Iranian cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati on Friday urged the nation and authorities of Iran to stand united against the "economic war" waged on the Islamic Republic by foreign forces during Friday Prayers in Tehran.

Ayatollah Jannati also addressed the relentless unrest in Syria and condemned the interference of foreign countries in the Arab state’s internal affairs, Press TV reported Saturday.

US President Barack Obama announced Tuesday additional sanctions against Iran's energy and petrochemical sectors over the Islamic republic's disputed nuclear program.
