‘Counterfeit’ olive oil caught by ministry inspectors

Not everything that calls itself "olive oil" is the real thing. The Health Ministry said on Thursday that it has caught a local brand of "olive oil" for which high prices were charged but was found to violate Israeli standards.

Company representatives were called in for investigation. The product was labeled "Hamelech Pressed Olive Oil," and was in one- or four-liter bottles, produced by the Suleiman Brothers, Lower Galilee Industrial Park.

The ministry said tests showed it was "not pure olive oil" or adulterated. As the bottles were found in a storehouse, they were collected to prevent them from being marketed, the ministry said.
