Deri: I will not sit in a gov't that hurts the weak

Former Shas leader and candidate Arye Deri on Monday said he would refuse to sit in a government coalition whose policies hurt society's weakest members, even if his party does.
"If the proposal of the finance ministry as it stands today will be approved in the next government, if it will be part of the makeup of the government, I will not sit in that government, period," Deri said in an interview with the Knesset Channel, set to air on Tuesday. "I will not be able to live with my conscience in a government that instead of making an effort to lessening the impact on the weak, broadens the gaps."
"If Maran [Shas spiritual leader Ovadia Yosef] decides we'll sit in the coalition, we'll sit in the coalition. I won't sit in the government," he added.
