English news head pleads to save IBA

Israel Broadcasting Authority English news head Steve Leibowitz pleaded with his viewers to take action to help save the IBA in a rare editorial at start of Sunday's daily news brief.
Leibowitz said that when the survival of the English news was in jeopardy, its viewers helped save it with a massive letter-writing campaign, and now the same was necessary for Israeli public television as a whole. He said the IBA's reform plans were critical for its survival and with it the English news on television and radio.
"Think what that means for the public image of the State of Israel," Leibowitz said. "Think what it means for your lives in Israel. I think we can agree that it would be a sad day for you and for Israel if IBA news and Israel television are taken off the air."
