Environment Ministry slams Haifa Chemicals over pollution

The Haifa Chemicals factory has been severely polluting Nahal Kishon for several years, Army Radio reported the Environmental Protection Ministry as saying on Sunday, and is also the only company in the area that has refused to take part in a project seeking to clean the river.
A bill for a river cleanup of the Kishon is expected to be presented to the Knesset by Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan Sunday. The ambitious bill intends to jump start a rehabilitation project that will clean polluted ground-soil in the river that has undergone ten years of pollution, and will cost an estimated NIS 220 million with joint funding by the government, local companies and industrial sites responsible for the pollution, and local authorities.
