Meretz leader Zehava Gal-On stated Friday that the settlement enterprise in the West Bank is destroying Israeli democracy.

Speaking at the Peace Now conference in Tel Aviv, Gal-On said: "If you want democracy in Israel, you have to end the occupation." Gal-On added that she is happy, not embarrassed, to be a member of the left-wing.

Turning to the recent controversy over Ulpana, Gal-On said that the government is "sanctioning land theft" in considering ways of bypassing a High Court of Justice ruling to evacuate the outpost.
