Hizbullah denounces initiative to outlaw weapons in Beirut

Hizbullah on Saturday came out against a Lebanese government initiative that would prohibit anyone other than army and security forces from carrying weapons in Beirut. The initiative came after Tuesday's deadly clash between members of Hizbullah and a small Sunni group in which three were killed.

A Hizbullah representative in Lebanon's parliament said that it was necessary that the organization's members be allowed to carry weapons in order to defend the country against Israel.
