Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman plans to head the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee following the election until his legal troubles end.

The former foreign minister's party confirmed on Tuesday that, until the Belarus Ambassador Affair ends, he will head the Knesset's most politically prestigious committee.

The report first appeared on Israeli Russian-language news website "Cursor" as an excerpt from an interview with Liberman that took place on Tuesday morning.

Liberman added that, once the trial ends, he will hold a key position in the government.
