MK: Art center budgets to be conditional on performances

In the wake of letters written by artists in support of a boycott of the new cultural center in Ariel, Culture Minister Limor Livnat announced Monday morning that she plans to make it a requirement that arts organizations receiving support from the state obligate their salaried actors and artists to perform in all Israeli culture centers as a condition for support.
The culture minister has recently been working on an amendment to the criteria determining the budgets of cultural agencies. Under the amendment, agencies that refuse to send their artists to perform in the territories will not be eligible for funds provided by the state.
The amendment was introduced following the first letter written by the artists in August.
Livnat said that the theater department within the Culture Ministry was set to discuss additional changes to the criteria next week.
