A 25-year-old resident of Ashkelon was arrested this week after being found in possession of half a kilogram of cannabis in his vehicle, police said.

The man was indicted at the Kiryat Gat Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Police said the man was being observed by officers as he sold hashish and marijuana from his car.

Officers raided the vehicle as a deal took place, leading the drugs purchaser to throw his portion out of the car window. Police recovered the hashish.

"A search of his car led to a 'treasure' - half a kilogram of hashish hidden under the backseat carpet," Lachish police said in a statement.

Police then obtained a warrant from a court to search the man's home and recovered "many portions" of marijuana and cannabis in his bedroom.

The man has denied being in possession of the drugs in his car, saying they were not his.
