WASHINGTON - New staff rules released by the International Monetary Fund on Thursday make harassment grounds for disciplinary action and even dismissal, the institution said a day after Dominique Strauss-Kahn quit as IMF boss in the face of sexual assault charges.

The review of the rules, which were approved on May 6 but published only on Thursday, follows a 2008 affair Strauss-Kahn had with a female IMF economist in which he apologized for an "error of judgment."

At the time, the IMF board warned him against further improper conduct but cleared him of harassment and abuse of power and kept him in the job.
