Officials say 37 people gunned down in Pakistan's Karachi

KARACHI, Pakistan — Hospital officials said Tuesday that at least 37 people were fatally shot in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi following the assassination of a lawmaker.
Karachi, Pakistan's most populous city and its commercial hub, has long been volatile, with bursts of sectarian, political and ethnic violence.
The latest death tolls come after provincial lawmaker Raza Haider was shot dead Monday in a mosque. Simi Jamali and three other hospital officials confirmed the tolls Tuesday. Haider belonged to Muttahida Qaumi Movement political party.
