Report: Egypt warned Hamas against escalating Gaza tensions

Egypt warned Hamas against escalating rocket-fire from Gaza, according to an Egyptian source quoted by al-Hayat Friday morning.

Citing the pan-Arab paper, Israel Radio quoted an Egyptian source as saying that while Israel was not obligated to a cease-fire, Cairo had not expected such a harsh response.

"We were shocked when Israel assassinated Hamas military commander Ahmed Jabari," the unnammed source told al-Hayat.

The report came as the IAF carried out strikes in Gaza to root out terror infrastructure and Palestinians in the Strip fired over 400 rockets at Israel in two days.
