Capt. Erez Efrati, the former bodyguard of IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi who has been charged with attempted rape and attempted sodomy, will be able to move freely in his cell, a Tel Aviv Magistrate Court judge ruled Wednesday. Efrati is charged with attacking a young woman last month at the Tel Aviv port. Judge Zvi Gurfinkel ruled that Efrati will not be confined to his bed in his prison cell as the prosecution requested, fearing he might kill himself while in custody. Gurfinkel based his decision on a psychiatric opinion, which determined that while Efrati is depressed, he is not psychotic and has no suicidal intentions. The judge also instructed the prison to improve the conditions of Efrati's imprisonment.
