Left seeks to disperse Knesset; Labor mayors, central committee moves to push idea of annexing parts of W. Bank if UN Palestinian state resolution passes.
By GIL STERN STERN HOFFMANKnesset session 311(photo credit: Courtesy)Knesset members from across the political spectrum made their final preparations over the weekend for the Knesset’s summer session, which begins on Monday after a lengthy recess.The summer session is expected to be focused on diplomatic issues, starting with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s trip to Washington this week and key speeches that will be made by Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama.RELATED:Katz: Palestinian state will be an Iranian foothold 'Annexation for declaration' idea advancing in Knesset MKs and key activists on the Right will hold a strategy meeting at the Knesset on Monday to decide how best to pressure Netanyahu not to deliver unilateral concessions to the Palestinians in Washington.Likud mayors and central committee members will spend the day lobbying Netanyahu and the party’s ministers. Many of them will push the ministers to adopt the idea of annexing part of Judea and Samaria if the Palestinians declare a state at the UN General Assembly in September.Meanwhile, on the Left, Labor leadership candidate Isaac Herzog intends to submit a bill calling for the Knesset to be dispersed.“Netanyahu is steering Israel to a diplomatic crisis,” Herzog said at a rally at Kibbutz Beit Hashita, between Afula and Beit She’an.“An investigative committee should already start probing how we failed so dismally to persuade 150 countries in the UN.”
