Avineri was a prolific writer, authoring 10 books and contributing significantly to the understanding of Zionism, socialism, and political philosophy.
The recipients of the Israel Prize included scientists, academics and social activists from throughout Israeli society.
"My body and soul are trembling because I am full of worry of the division, the rift, the fracture we have fallen into," the Israeli music icon said.
