87 US Senators to Obama: Put pressure on Abbas

Eighty-seven US Senators sent a letter to US President Barack Obama urging him to press Palestinian Authority President Mahmud Abbas not to abandon peace talks with Israel, the AFP reported.
In the letter, the senators state that "neither side should make threats to leave just as the talks are getting started," referencing Abbas' recent threats to walk away from the negotiating table if building resumed in the West Bank. The senators retort that the Prime Minister "did not abandon the talks" following "the brutal murder of four innocent Israeli civilians by Hamas."
The senators' letter also stated their believe that Arab states should provide more "meaningful political and economic support for this [peace] process," asking Obama to use his influence to ensure Arab support.
