Bank teller and family suspected of embezzling over 5 million shekels

Police arrested a bank teller and six of his family members in the northern town of Kfar Kana on Wednesday on suspicion of embezzling over NIS 5 million.
The suspect in his 30s, is a bank teller at Bank Leumi bank in Baka Al Gharbia. He is alleged to have taken over NIS 5 million over the past few years, police said. The bank teller’s family members then allegedly helped him hide the money by depositing it into their accounts.
“His wife, father, and uncles were arrested because we think that he used their accounts,” said Coastal District Police spokesman Chaim Ponimonsky.
Police received a complaint from Bank Leumi and opened an a covert investigation eight-months ago in conjunction with Haifa income tax unit.
The suspects will be brought to the Acre Magistrate's Court on Wednesday were police are seeking to extend their remands.
