Brussels: War crimes charges against Belgian officials

War crimes charges are being requested against Belgian officials involved in the 1960 execution of an African leader, Belgian human rights activists announced on Monday.
Patrice Lumumba, the first African ruler of Congo after a century of Belgian rule, was kidnapped, tortured and executed by Belgian troops.
The Belgians, who murdered millions of people during their rule of Congo, replaced Lumumba with Mobutu Sese Soku, whose rule led to a brutal civil war in which hundreds of thousands have died.
