Busy winter of golf on the Ga’ash links

The Ga’ash Golf Club kicked off the new year with the 2014 champion of champions tournament, sponsored by The Geographical Tours Company.
A total of 60 golfers participated in the tournament, with 22 taking part in the championships and another 38 in an individual Stableford competition.
After a fierce battle, Ashly Silber emerged as the 2014 champion of champions, winning both the gross and net prizes.
Silber played the front nine with one birdie, five pars and three bogeys, giving him a two-over-par 37. He came in with a threeover- par 38, which included one birdie, four pars and four bogeys.
Silber’s gross score was a 75, playing off a five handicap, meaning a net score of 70. In second place overall in the championships was Richard Fogelson.
In the A Division of the Stableford format event, there was a tie atop the leaderboard between Gary VanDerMolen and Gil Bianco, with VanDerMolen winning on the count-back. Eliezer Shkedi took home top prize in the Stableford B Division, followed by Yehudit Merdler.
Nearest-to-the-pin prizes, sponsored by Greenfield at Ga’ash, went to Bianco and David Tor.
At the awards ceremony, Deputy CEO of The Geographical Tours Company, Haim Shuster, thanked Ga’ash Golf CEO Gili Peleg for holding the tournament.
In other golf action from Ga’ash, last week Uri Blum scored a hole-in-one on the par-3 ninth hole, which was playing at 160 meters. In addition, the final of the 2014 league championships was completed last week in stormy conditions.
The Albatross team, with Ga’ash Golf’s head professional David Goldenberg and Amos Aharoni as well as Eliezer Peleg and Moolie Avisar, finally beat the Bently group on the 20th hole. Playing for Bently was Hazi Magen and Yoav Shenhav along with Yehuda Levy and Ori Ilan.
