BEIJING - A Chinese court convicted Lai Changxing, who was extradited from Canada, on Friday and sentenced him to life imprisonment on smuggling and bribery charges, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
The court in Xiamen in eastern Fujian province also ordered that Lai, who had fled to Canada after being accused of operating a vast smuggling ring in the 1990s, be stripped of all his personal assets, Xinhua reported.
