Clashes in Turkey following candidates ban

Anger over the Turkish ban on 12 independent candidates drew a harsh police response in Istanbul Tuesday as protesters threw stones at police and Molotov cocktails at some stores, Turkish daily Hurriyet Daily News & Economic Review reported.
According to the report, thousands of people gathered at the downtown Istanbul Taksim square to stage a sit-in and then marched over to the Aksaray district where the clashes with police broke out.
Seven candidates backed by the pro-Kurdish BDP party were among those banned for "past convictions and legal technicalities," Hurriyet reported.
