Court raps state for not razing Ofra waste treatment plant

The High Court of Justice Sunday gave the state 90 days to explain why it has failed to demolish a waste treatment plant built on the outskirts of the Ofra settlement.
Palestinians from the nearby village of Ein Yabrud together with the Israeli NGO Yesh Din had petitioned the court in November 2009 to force the state to demolish the structure which they claimed was illegally built on private Palestinian land.
Chief Justice Dorit Beinisch, Justice Ayala Procaccia and Justice Hanan Meltzer chastised the state on Sunday for retroactively trying to legalize the facility. Beinisch said, “A demolition order has been issued, nothing happened, and in the end – other solutions are being sought. This has become a common tactic.”
