Despite security situation, Tel Aviv night run to go on as planned

Despite the threat of terror attacks and the tense security situation across Israel in recent weeks, Tel Aviv will hold its annual “Night Run” on Tuesday night, organizers said.
Regarding security concerns, organizers said Tuesday that “the city of Tel Aviv weighed whether or not to cancel the event, but after consulting with the police they came to the conclusion that a cancellation would be giving a prize to terrorism.
Organizers said that participants will receive a special sticker that reads “we won’t stop running” meant to “encourage national pride and the sporting spirit, especially in these days.”
They added that they have not received any cancellations by participants, and that they expect around 20,000 people to take part.
The Coca Cola Zero Night Run Tel Aviv will begin at 9 p.m. and will run for 10km around the center of the city, with light shows and DJs posted along the route, as well as a party at the finish line at Ganei Yehoshua, organizers said.
The race will also be experienced by those who aren’t running, as extensive road closures will go into effect in the central and north central areas of the city beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, until midnight.
Tel Aviv police said Tuesday that they had carried out security assessments for the event but that they were not holding any special deployment or ordering special reinforcements from outside the district, and that the event is being treated just like night runs in previous years, when the security situation was calmer.
