El Al flight returns to Israel en route to Barcelona

An El Al flight en route to Barcelona made its way back to Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday afternoon after the Spanish city decided to shut down its international airport as Iceland’s volcanic ash cloud spread toward it.
A representative of the company said solutions were being looked into for the many Israeli passengers stranded in Europe. “We at El Al understand the importance of bringing our passengers back to Israel ahead of Remembrance Day and Yom Haatzmaut. That is why we are doing everything in our power to transfer as many passengers as possible to Israel,” the representative said.
An El Al flight to Barcelona scheduled to take off on Sunday evening was subsequently cancelled. The carrier continued to operate flights to Rome, Madrid and Athens.
