Environment Ministry uncovers pirate waste site in Ashkelon

In a covert operation conducted in conjunction with the Israel Police, the Environmental Protection Ministry recently uncovered a pirate waste transfer station running in northern Ashkelon.
At the end August, Israeli Police officers and inspectors from the ministry's Green Police seized two trucks that were bringing construction waste into the illegal site and brought the suspects in for questioning, the ministry said on Monday. In addition, the ministry issued an indictment, requesting a judicial order to close the station permanently.

"We will continue to take extreme action against anyone whose actions cause environmental hazards and are against the law," Environmental Protection Minister Zeev Elkin said.

Construction waste was being dumped on the bare ground at the station, which was operating with neither appropriate infrastructure nor a business license, according to the ministry.
