Erdan backs Dead Sea salt dredging

Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan has notified Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz that his ministry backs completely dredging the salt from the southern basin of the Dead Sea as the only environmentally responsible and sustainable long-term solution, the ministry said on Wednesday.
Tourism Minister Stas Meseznikov is expected to soon decide how to deal with the rising water level in mineral mining pool No. 5, which threatens to flood the foundations of the nearby hotels.
Erdan said his ministry would object to either of the other two options – building a laguna around the hotels or relocating some of the hotels – in any planning council meeting.
