French tourist fined 20,000 shekels for speeding

A French tourist caught driving at 199 kilometers an hour was fined 20,000 shekels on Thursday.

Traffic Police said the the motorist, who steered his Mercedes vehicle southbound on Route 6 at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, was brought before a traffic court in line with new police policy regarding dangerous speeding.

The court revoked the tourist's license for 20 months, handed down a six-months suspended prison sentence, and handed down a 20,000 shekel fine.
