German Foreign Ministry summons Iran's ambassador

The German government has summoned Iran's ambassador to express concern over Iranian authorities' crackdown on opposition demonstrations. Deputy Foreign Minister Reinhard Silberberg told the ambassador Monday the German government considers the violent response and the attempt to prevent peaceful demonstrations "unacceptable." Silberberg also demanded international media be allowed to report freely and reporters' security be guaranteed. The German government called on authorities in Tehran to clarify allegations of irregularities in Friday's election. Incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was officially declared the victor, but opposition candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi has objected.
