Giro d’Italia int’l cycling competition comes to capital

Italy’s prestigious Giro d’Italia cycling competition has made Jerusalem the concluding leg of its annual tour. The first 20 kilometers of the world’s second most famous cycling race will take place Friday at 6:30 a.m. at the community center on Herzl Boulevard, and conclude at 8:30 a.m. to minimize traffic disruptions.
The 20k. course will traverse through city streets and is open to amateur riders, while the remaining 130 km. will take place in a more challenging mountain setting among professional cyclists.
In hosting the event, Jerusalem will join other leading cities, including New York, Los Angeles and Miami, which have also served as hosts. For more information regarding street closings call the National Center for Public Transportation at *8787.
