BEIRUT - Global hacking network Anonymoussaid it will shut down Syrian government websites around theworld in response to a countrywide Internet blackout believeaimed at silencing the opposition to President Bashar Assad.
Syria was plunged into communication darkness on Thursdaywhen Internet connectivity stopped at midday. Land lines andmobile phones networks were also seriously disrupted.
The Syrian government said "terrorists" had attacked Internetlines but the opposition and human rights groups suspect it tobe the work of the authorities.
