Greens chooses leaders of both sexes

For the first time in Israel, a political party has chosen as a matter of policy a male and female chairperson. On Friday, the Green Movement, which did not pass the electoral threshold in the last Knesset elections, selected Prof. Alon Tal and Racheli Tidhar-Caner as the new chairs of the party.
Tal and Tidhar-Caner said in a statement that the move, which follows the model set out by Germany’s Greens, was meant to highlight the disparity between men and women in Israeli society.
The Green Movement filed the Supreme Court petition against Maj.-Gen. Yoav Galant’s appropriation of land on his moshav that led to the retraction of his appointment as the next IDF chief of general staff.
