Hamas backtracks on missile apology

The Hamas government in tried to distance itself Saturday from astatement it made earlier this week in which it expressed regret for harmingIsraeli civilians in rocket attacks.

The apology for the rockets was part of the Hamasgovernment's response to a UN report that alleged both Hamasand committed warcrimes during 's three-week offensivelast winter.

"We apologize for any harm that might have come to Israelicivilians," the Hamas government wrote.

On Saturday, the government claimed the response to the UN wasmisinterpreted. "The report that was submitted regarding the Goldstonereport does not include any apologies and what took place was an incorrectinterpretation of some of its wording," the government said in astatement.
